Raptor Ecology Specialist - Zoey Greenberg

WHO IS ZOEY GREENBERG?

Zoey has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where she focused on science writing, bird migration, and oceanography. Although raised in the Pacific Northwest, she has spent most of her professional life in Pennsylvania studying raptor ecology and delivering Appalachian forest ecology programs for a wide demographic. Her ornithology training comes from Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center where she was a vulture trainer and educator, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where she wrote education materials on raptors, and served as a field assistant for a variety of raptor research projects. She has a special interest in avian scavengers such as bald eagles, due to their scrappy behaviors, adaptable feeding strategies, and inventive lifestyles.

She is currently a freelance writer for several organizations focused on public engagement with the natural world and is thrilled to be contributing to the Hanover Bald Eagle cam for a second season. This March she will be the hawkwatcher for Tussey Mountain in central PA, monitoring the return of bald and golden eagles from their overwintering grounds. During the summer Zoey is a naturalist for Maya’s Legacy Whale Watching, a small, conservation-minded company in coastal Washington with an emphasis on the importance of keeping the Salish Sea healthy so that whales and eagles alike can thrive in their natural environments.

Zoey will be remotely monitoring the Hanover, PA Bald Eagle live cameras, analyzing nest activity and contributing the scientific and educational information for the Hanover Bald Eagle Blogs.

HISTORY OF THE HANOVER, PA BALD EAGLE LIVE CAMERAS

HDOnTap has been live streaming the Hanover, PA bald eagle nest since 2015, previously in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, until the fall of 2018. In November 2018, the Pennsylvania Game Commission awarded HDOnTap the live streaming permit and again in the fall of 2019 for the upcoming nesting season.

The 2018-2019 season proved successful for the resident bald eagle pair, nicknamed by viewers “Liberty” and “Freedom”, as they laid a clutch of two eggs, rasied and had two successful fledges.

HDOnTap, Comcast Business and the Pennsylvania Game Commission are all hoping for a successful 2020 Hanover nesting season.
