On Saturday, September 17, 2022 SNPA went public with a “live cam” that was placed on the roof of the SNPA office/warehouse with a view of Shenandoah National Park (SNP). The camera will span the ridge of SNP from the Shenandoah Valley side. The cam will have a range of Thornton Gap (Route 211) south to Big Meadows. Both Skyland and Big Meadows Lodge will be visible along with Marys Rock, Stony Man, and the Park’s highest peak, Hawksbill.
On Thursday, October 20, 2022 Big Meadows webcam went live! Look south from Byrd Visitor Center at milepost 51 at this higher elevation. You can monitor seasonal changes, check the weather, or watch wildlife with this bird’s eye view of Big Meadows.
The cam will loop north to south with various stops and zooms. Viewers can also click on the line at the bottom of the video to go back to earlier in that day in case they missed sunrise or want to watch a part of the day again. SNPA is hoping that the “fall colors” will be a great feature for visitors to watch as the colors progress down from the mountain top.
Funding for the camera and the “live cam” service is funded by the Shenandoah National Park Association.
